Register a SWAP Wallet

You’ll need your cellphone and your South African ID number – and you’ll also need to think of a secret, five-digit PIN.

There’s no charge to register your SWAP Wallet or to buy Airtime, either from a balance you deposit or from a credit card if you’ve linked one.

After that, SWAP calls and payments are free.
First, some SWAP protocol. SWAP uses USSD. This means that you’ll be given menu choices or asked to enter information – but the way you do it may be a little different from what you’re used to.

• Dial *130*1313#
  (but only once you’ve saved it to your phone).
  (You save it to your phone so you can redial easily.
  Due to one of the USSD safety features, you can’t
  redial simply by pressing the redial key.)
• You'll reach the SWAP welcome screen
  To continue, press Answer/Reply
  Type 1 (Continue) into the text entry field
  Press OK/Send
• The second screen will remind you of SWAP’s
  web address where you can read the Terms and Conditions
  To continue, press Answer/Reply
  Press 1, then press OK/Send
• The third screen will ask you to enter a 5 digit secret PIN
  To continue, press Answer/Reply
  Type your chosen PIN into the text entry field
  Press OK/Send
• The next screen will ask you for your South African ID number
  To continue, press Answer/Reply
  Type your ID number – without spaces – into the text entry field
  Press OK/Send
• The fifth screen will display the ID number and PIN you’ve just entered.
  To confirm them as correct, press Answer/Reply
  Type 1 into the text entry field
  Press OK/Send
                 
           If you have entered an incorrect ID or PIN:
  
  Press Answer/Reply
  Type # (End session) into the text entry field and dial *130*1313#
  to try again.
• Once you’ve confirmed your ID and PIN, congratulations! You now have your own SWAP Wallet and you’re ready to buy SWAP Instant Airtime.
