Link your credit card to your SWAP Wallet
Once you’ve activated your SWAP Wallet, you can make your payment options much more flexible by linking your Visa or MasterCard credit card ore cheque card. Choose to pay from your SWAP Wallet balance or from your credit card any time you make a payment with SWAP – and have access to your existing VISA or MasterCard credit limit even when your card is safely at home.
Cards you can link for instant payments:
- Any South African VISA or MasterCard credit card
- Any South African cheque card marked with a VISA or MasterCard logo
Cards you cannot link for instant payments:
- Credit cards issued by American Express
- Debit cards
- Any card carrying the VISA Electron or Maestro logos
(However, you can link the bank accounts associated with these cards to use the debit order-based Add Funds to Wallet function.)
Step-by-step guide to linking your credit card or cheque card to your SWAP Wallet
- Dial the SWAP Direct Code *130*1313#
- When prompted for your PIN press Answer/Reply, type your PIN into the text entry field and press OK/Send
- You'll reach the main SWAP Wallet screen. Press Answer/Reply and choose “My Wallet” by typing 1 into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- From the My Wallet screen, press Answer/Reply and choose “Link Accounts” by typing 4 into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- From the Link Accounts screen, press Answer/Reply and choose “Link Credit/Cheque Card” by typing 4 into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- The next screen will remind you of the requirements for registering and linking a credit or cheque card. To continue, press Answer/Reply, type 1, then press OK/Send
- The following screen will ask you for your sixteen digit credit card or cheque card number. To continue, press Answer/Reply
- Type your card number (no spaces) into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
The next screen will ask you for the card expiry date. To continue, press
Answer/Reply
Remember – if you get disconnected at any time, simply dial the SWAP Code again to pick up where you left off. It’s easiest to redial if the SWAP Code is already saved to your cellphone contact list.
Type the expiry date into the text entry field as four digits (e.g. 1108 for 11/08)
Press OK/Send
- The following screen will ask you for the card CVV number (the last 3 numbers on the back of the card). To continue, press Answer/Reply. Type the CVV number into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- The next screen will ask you to confirm the information you’ve entered. To continue, press Answer/Reply. Type 1 into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- The following screen will ask you to enter your 13 digit South African ID number. To continue, press Answer/Reply. Type your ID number (no spaces) into the text entry field. Press OK/Send
- For authentication purposes, SWAP will process the information you have submitted. Thereafter, you will either receive an SMS asking you to contact the SWAP Customer Care Centre for manual authentication, or asking you to dial a SWAP Code and enter the answers to two authentication questions directly from the on-phone authentication screen
- Congratulations! Once authentication is complete, the next time you dial a SWAP Code, you’ll be able to choose Pay from Credit/Cheque Card. Remember, you won’t need to have the actual card with you
